Media Art from Atlanta • 3/31-4/2
The materiality of the moving image both holds and haunts the future of time-based art. MORE LIGHT features work by Atlanta media artists who consider the potential of this conundrum, making images and systems that transfer, change, degrade, or breakdown into other forms and formats. Through an engagement with the technological specificities of various media—from light boxes to 16mm projection, from augmented reality to site-specific installation—these artists create work at the interstices of material and the immaterial, of representation and abstraction. Manipulating light and time via data, codec, algorithm, celluloid, and videotape, these artists offer meditations on the material nature of process of media art. Together the works express the visual and physical transformations of the image made possible at the limits of time-based media.
